The first presidential debate of the 2024 US election quickly turned into a nightmare for Democrats as 81-year-old President Joe Biden tried in vain to persuade a very sceptical country that he should be re-elected. The leaders fought over issues related to the economy, foreign policy and global issues, the country’s immigrant problem, and the state of democracy in the US.

America’s Reaction to Trump-Biden Debate

People all over the world have thoughts on the first general election discussion of 2024, which was between Vice President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump. It was a chance for the candidates to try to change the political story and win over people who were not sure yet. The 90-minute talk on Thursday took place in Atlanta and was hosted by CNN. People from all over the country who had different ideas about the most important problems the country was facing got together at watch parties. Elaine Freeman, a Trump supporter who lives in Oxford, Ohio and works at the nearby Veterans Affairs hospital, says the economy is the most important problem in this election. The price of life for her family is too high, and it is hard for her to pay for weekly necessities like food.

The League of United Latin American Citizens A policy and legislation fellow named Adriana Varea said that immigration is a big problem and that gun control needs to be looked at. She talked about going to school in Lewiston, Maine, which was the site of a mass shooting in 2023 that killed eighteen people. The owners of London’s Bar & Grill in McAllen, Texas, said they were surprised that so many people were listening to the conversation but not speaking up on a Friday, almost the weekend. Hector Mercado, a soldier from Edinburg, Texas, wearing a beret, agreed with what Trump said about closing the border. Virginia Lopez also said at the Texas bar that she is not sure if she should vote or not.

US Presidential Debate Live

Trump called Biden a “complainer” and said, “The whole country is exploding because of you, because they do not respect you.” He did this by talking about what he had done in his first time in office. In his speech, Biden promised to lower inflation, but he mostly talked about taxes. Former President Donald Trump said that the National Guard was sent to Minneapolis in 2020 during the riots that broke out after George Floyd was killed by a Minneapolis police officer. “When they destroyed Portland and many other towns. Check out what they did in Minneapolis, Minnesota, when there were a lot of fires in the city. If I had not sent in the National Guard, that city would have burned to the ground.

“Check the facts: This is not true.” The Minnesota National Guard was called out by Tim Walz, the Democratic Governor of Minnesota, not President Trump. Walz did this more than seven hours before Trump made an official threat to call out the Guard himself. In 2020, Walz’s office told CNN that the governor had ordered the Guard to be activated because St. Paul and Minneapolis, both of which are run by Democrats, had asked him to.

What was in the debate?

Today is the first discussion between President Biden and former President Trump. It took place in Atlanta on Thursday night. Because Biden did not do very well, this may be the only discussion. Recent polls show that the candidates are about evenly matched. But 60% of Americans planned to watch the talks, and 20% of voters said they were not sure yet. While this was going on, most people in Europe were asleep because the UK and France have important elections in July. But the most important election for Europe in terms of world order and safety is the one in the US on November 5.

In this election, immigration, abortion, and inflation are the three major issues that voters are thinking about. Each one is important and causes debate. That being said, there was another reason people were watching: to see if the candidates had the spirit and stamina to be good leaders. This debate did not make me feel better at all. Because of how he has been doing, some people want President Biden to give up his ticket and place it with someone else. That is not good. One of Biden’s many important policies is to lead the US’s recovery from COVID-19. Another is to bring NATO together to defend Ukraine. Former President Trump, on the other hand, did not feel bad about changing the facts about many things, such as Europe’s support for Ukraine, the trade gap with China, and what happened on January 6.

The conversation also showed how the fight has changed, with working-class Americans, non-white minorities in the U.S., and Washington insiders getting more attention now. All of the candidates are competing for the votes of Black and Hispanic people. President Biden talked about how well he had set up policies and jobs to help the social infrastructure growth in these areas. President Trump often attacks immigration, the border, and Vice President Biden’s policies. In this case, he said that immigrants were taking jobs from Black and Hispanic workers.
