Careers Allowance 2024

The UK government gives Careers Allowance to people who take care of someone who is sick or disabled and gets certain benefits. Also, they have to care for them for at least 35 hours a week in order to get the caregivers wage.

Careers Allowance Eligibility 2024

The government has rules that both the person giving care and the person getting care must follow in order to get the Careers Allowance. Please keep in mind that the Career’s Allowance can only be given to one person who cares for the same person.

 

Eligibility requirement for the “Career” –

  • Over 16 years.
  • Must provide care for at least 35 hours per week.
  • Earnings should be less than or equal to £139 per week after tax, expenses, and National Insurance.
  • Shouldn’t be in full-time education.
  • Shouldn’t be subject to immigration control.

Earnings refer to the income that comes from employment/self-employment after Tax/National Insurance/Expenses. Payments that are not counted as earnings are –

  • Loan/Advanced Payment from employer.
  • Money from an occupational/private pension.

 

Eligibility requirement for the person receiving care –

They should be receiving any of these –

  • Armed Forces Independence Payment
  • Attendance Allowance
  • Personal Independence Payment
  • Child Disability Payment
  • Adult Disability Payment
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Constant Attendance Allowance

Please keep in mind that these perks may come with extra requirements. For instance, people must get the middle or best care rate from Child Disability Payment.

So, people should go to the UK Government’s website to see the full list of requirements for getting the Career’s Allowance.

No one can get a caregiver’s pay if they care for someone with other people.

  • is claiming Carers Allowance
  • getting an extra amount of Universal Credit for caring for someone receiving a disability benefit

 

Care Eligibility –

Care can include –

  • taking them to a doctor’s appointment
  • helping with cooking/washing
  • helping with household tasks, i.e., shopping, managing bills, etc.

 

Careers Allowance Rate 2024

They can’t get the full amounts of both benefits at the same time if they are getting a state pension and a career’s wage.

  • If the pension exceeds £76.75 per week, they won’t get Career’s Allowance.
  • If the pension is less than £76.75 per week, they will receive the Career’s Allowance to make up the difference.

They won’t get Careers Allowance if their state income is more than £76.75 a week, but their pension credit payments will go up.

Please keep in mind that getting a Career’s Allowance can change the other benefits a caregiver and the person being cared for can get.

Carers Allowance Eligibility

When the Career gets this allowance, the person they are caring for stops receiving –

  • severe disability premium (sent with other benefits)
  • an extra amount of severe disability premium (sent with pension credit)

When the Career gets the allowance, their other benefits might change. However, their total payments from benefits will either stay the same or get higher.

 

How to Claim Careers Allowance?

Those who want to get the Career’s Allowance can do so either online or by mail. If someone wants to apply by mail, they need to get a form from the government. They can call them and ask for the form.

People who want to apply should make sure they have all the information or papers they need with them. Some of these are –

  • National Insurance number
  • employment details
  • bank details
  • latest pay slip if working
  • course details if studying
  • expense details

Moreover, they should also provide the details about the person that they are caring for –

  • address
  • D.O.B.
  • National Insurance Number
  • Disability Living Allowance reference

 

How Much is Careers Allowance?

A person who needs care gets £76.75 a week, as long as they meet all the conditions. Please keep in mind that someone who cares for more than one person cannot claim this allow for both of them.

The caregiver will still get their pay for up to eight weeks after the person they were looking for dies. The caregiver will get the money for up to 12 weeks if they are in the hospital for at least 8 weeks.

Because of this, people who get the Careers Allowance should tell the authorities right away if their situation changes.
