Within the UK, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) provides a benefit called Attendance Allowance for people over the State Pension age who have heart problems or other disabilities. Because of these health problems, there are extra costs that come with daily life that this allowance is meant to help pay for.
This is meant to help older people stay in their own homes by making some of the financial pressures that come with their medical needs less severe.
Showing up Allowance is especially helpful for people who have heart problems like angina, coronary heart disease, palpitations, or high blood pressure. These conditions can make it very hard for a person to do everyday tasks on their own, and the allowance helps pay for the costs of personal care or supervision that is needed.
DWP Attendance Allowance Details
Those who want to get an Attendance Allowance must meet the following requirements:
Requirements for Age
The application must be at least old enough to get a State Pension. People younger than this age may be able to get Personal Independence Payment (PIP) instead.
Needs for Health
People with any kind of disability or physical or mental illness can get this benefit. Heart diseases like angina, coronary heart disease, arrhythmia, and high blood pressure are included. Conditions like not being able to see or hear well or having confusion are also covered.

Needs Care
The application must need help with personal care tasks like bathing or getting dressed, or they must need to be supervised at all times, day or night, to make sure they are safe.
Length of Need
Help must have been needed for at least six months, unless the person applying is dying, in which case they can make a claim right away.
DWP Attendance Allowance Payment Amounts
Showing up Allowance is given at two different rates based on how much care is needed:
For people who need help during the day or night, the lower rate is £72.65 per week. This comes out to £290.60 every four weeks.
Higher rate: £108.55 a week for people who need help day and night or who are very sick and will not get better. Every four weeks, this adds up to £434.20.
The money is sent to people every four weeks, and they can spend it however they want. This freedom can help pay for things like transportation, home bills, or personal care services.
Claiming Attendance Allowance
To claim Attendance Allowance, applicants must:
- Obtain a Claim Form: The form can be requested by phone or by mail through the official GOV.UK website.
- Complete the Application: The form is detailed and requires information about the applicant’s health condition and how it affects their daily life.
- Submit the Form: After completion, the form should be returned to the DWP for assessment.
Notes on Other Things
Keep in mind that people who already get Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for care needs can not also get Attendance Allowance for the same thing. The DWP may review a person’s DLA grant if they apply for and receive an Attendance Allowance.
This benefit is very important for helping people with heart problems because it helps them pay for extra costs of living and stay independent.
