The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has said which health problems could get some people up to £108 a week. This is mostly for people who get Disability Allowance. DLA is given to people who have certain disabilities, like being unable to move around or needing extra care.

To get this benefit, a person must meet certain requirements. The amount they get is based on how their handicap affects them. Some benefits, like PIP and Attendance Allowance, have mostly taken the place of DLA, but about a million people still got it last year and will again this year. The amount of DLA that people get has been raised by 6.7% to keep up with the rising cost of living.

This amount is split into two parts: one for care and one for getting around. The person gets a different amount of money for each part, depending on how much help they need.

The care component of DLA is intended for those who need help with personal care. It has three levels of support:

Lowest Rate:

  • 2024 Rate: £28.70 per week, increased from £26.90.
  • Eligibility: For individuals who need additional help for some part of the day.

Middle Rate:

  • 2024 Rate: £72.66 per week, increased from £68.10.
  • Eligibility: For individuals who require frequent assistance or continuous supervision during the day or supervision at night.

Highest Rate:

  • 2024 Rate: £108.57 per week, increased from £101.75.
  • Eligibility: For individuals who need round-the-clock care both day and night.
Mobility Component

The mobility component supports those with walking difficulties or who require guidance and supervision when moving around. It is offered at two rates:

Lower Rate:

  • 2024 Rate: £28.70 per week, increased from £26.90.
  • Eligibility: For individuals who can walk but need guidance or supervision when outside to avoid dangers.

Higher Rate:

  • 2024 Rate: £72.66 per week, increased from £68.10.
  • Eligibility: For individuals who are unable or virtually unable to walk or require someone with them outdoors due to severe sensory impairments.
