Green, who lives in Aurora, which is 41 miles west of Chicago, won the $1 million top prize with a $10 scratch-off ticket that he bought at Ruby’s Liquor on Butterfield Road.

Anup Singh, the owner of the store, said that Green often came in and called it her “lucky store.” On the day of her big win, Singh’s son Jas was at work and saw how happy she was.

She scratched the ticket and screamed, ‘Oh my gosh!'” Jas thought back. He looked at the ticket more than once to make sure it really was for the $1 million prize. Green was shocked and thrilled when she won. She signed her ticket and went home to think about how she could use her money to help other people.

A Caregiver’s Generosity

Green used to work as a school bus driver before the COVID-19 plague. At this point, she is a Certified Medical Assistant. Green was known for being kind, and she helped many people before she won the big prize. She talked about a recent time when she heard a woman pay to fill up her gas tank because she could only afford a gallon.

Green said, “Seeing other people happy makes me happy, and I want to know how I can help make that happen.” It was not a surprise that she chose to “pay it forward” after winning the lottery.

Giving Back

Green has given away more than $100,000 since she won. “When I won this prize, I felt like I could finally help my family and friends and pay it forward,” she said. Ruby’s Liquor also got an extra $10,000 for selling the winning ticket.
