Athletics: Neeraj Chopra marks an incredible 89.34m in qualification

Indian star athlete Neeraj Chopra threw the javelin 89.34 meters on his very first try in the qualification round for the Paris 2024 Olympics today.

So, he easily beat the qualification standard and moved on to the final, which will take place on Thursday, August 8 at 11:55 PM IST.

 

This is the fifth person to make it to the final of the men’s javelin throw at Paris 2024. The winner in Tokyo 2020 is the first.

 

Chopra’s first throw, on the other hand, was his second-best ever in the men’s javelin event. The 26-year-old athlete also threw the best in any trial round.

 

Score: With an 89.34m throw in the qualification round, Neeraj Chopra made it to the final of the men’s javelin throw.

Before Neeraj Chopra’s debut in Paris 2024, let’s remember his performance in the men’s javelin qualifier event in Tokyo 2020.

 

Anderson Peters of Grenada, who was the current world champion, Johannes Vetter of Germany, Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago, who won the gold medal in London 2012, and Julius Yego of Kenya, who won the silver medal in Rio 2016.

 

To get to the final of the men’s javelin throw, the athletes had to break a mark of 83.50 meters.

 

Chopra surprised everyone by beating Vetter to the top spot in the qualification round with a throw of 86.65 meters on the first try. Vetter tried three times but could only manage an 85.64-meter mark.

 

Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan finished in third place with a second try of 85.16m.
