The men’s doubles competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics badminton tournament will begin on Monday, and India’s Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy have already qualified for the quarterfinals of the competition.

Originally, they were scheduled to compete against the Germans Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel. Nevertheless, Lamsfuss’ injury compelled the pair to withdraw from the Olympics, which ultimately resulted in the match being eliminated from competition.

Following their victory over the forty-first-ranked Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar of France, the world’s third-ranked pair kicked off their campaign in Paris 2024. As of Monday, Corvee and Labar were defeated by Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Fajar Alfian of Indonesia, who are ranked seventh in the world.

The French pair has been eliminated from the competition as a result of their two defeats, and as a consequence, Chirag-Satwik and Ardianto-Alfian will finish inside the top two contenders in Group C. On Tuesday, the Indian and Indonesian pairs will compete against one another in order to determine who will take the top slot in the group.

In the meantime, Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa are on the verge of being eliminated from the women’s doubles competition. On Monday, they were defeated by Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida of Japan, who are ranked fourth in the world. By the score of 21-11 and 21-12, they were defeated.

In the first match of their campaign, the Indian pair, who are now rated fourth in Group C, were defeated by Kim So-yeong and Kong Hee-yong of the People’s Republic of Korea, who are ranked eighth. The score was 21-18 and 21-10 overall.

In the final match of the group stage, which will take place on Tuesday, Crasto-Ponnappa, who is rated 19th in the world, will face Setyana Mapasa, who is ranked 26th, and Angela Yu, who is ranked 26th.

In the meantime, Lakshya Sen of India defeated Julien Carraggi of Belgium in the group stage match of the men’s singles competition that took place at La Chapelle Arena. The matches ended with a score of 21-19 and 21-14.

Sen, who is ranked 18th in the world in badminton, was put under a lot of pressure in the first game, but he managed to come back from a deficit and provide a clinical performance in the later portions of the match. After that, he scored a decisive victory by defeating Julien Carraggi, who was ranked 52nd in the world, in the second game.

A victory over Kevin Cordon of Guatemala marked the beginning of Lakshya Sen’s Olympic career. However, Cordon withdrew from the competition due to an injury that resulted in the elimination of the previous result. As a result, the match versus Carraggi became the first match of the Indian’s campaign.

When it comes to Group L, Sen, who is 22 years old, is now in second place, after Jonatan Christie of Indonesia.

Due to the fact that Sen and Carraggi were competing for early dominance, the first game between the two was a close one. The Belgian was in the lead by a margin of three points at 17-14 and had a lead of 11-8 at the halfway point of the game.

After that, Lakshya made a change of gears and rallied from behind to tie the score when it was 18-18. As the scoreboard read 19-19, Sen demonstrated his decisiveness by securing two straight points, which allowed him to guarantee victory in the opening game.

Sen started the second game with a great deal of confidence, having accomplished his goal of winning the first game by overcoming obstacles. At one point, the champion of the Commonwealth Games held an 8-2 lead, and during the second half of the match, they had an 11-4 advantage.

During the second game, Sen won four consecutive points to increase his lead, bringing the score to 14-10. He then went on to win the game 21-14 to complete the match.

The final match of the group round will be between Sen and Jonatan Christie of Indonesia, who is ranked third in the world. Christie has a commanding head-to-head record of 4-1 over Sen, and the Indonesian has already won two matches against Sen, who is an Indian opponent, so far this year.
