In 2024, Jyothi Yarraji, the fastest Indian hurdler, will be competing in her first Summer Olympics. She wants to make a name for herself on the track. The 24-year-old will be in the 100-meter hurdles race for women, which starts on August 7.
The Asian Games silver medalist Yarraji broke the national record for the women’s 100m hurdles by running it in 13.23 seconds in Cyprus in May 2022. Since then, she has broken it again and again. At the moment, the record is 12.78s, which she set in Chengdu, People’s Republic of China, in August 2023.
Yarraji just missed meeting the direct entry mark of 12.77s, but she still made it to the Paris 2024 Olympics based on her ranking. The Indian hurdler was placed 34th by the time the cutoff came around. Only the top 40 athletes made it to the Summer Games.
She set a national record in Finland in May of this year and then ran a season best of 12.78 seconds, which is only 0.01 seconds short of the qualifying mark.
This season, Masai Russell of the USA has been in great shape. She ran a 12.25-second mile in Oregon in June, which put her in fourth place on the all-time list. At Paris 2024, the 24-year-old will be one of the top contenders for the title.

One of the people vying for the gold title is Tobi Amusan of Nigeria, who has won the Diamond League three times and was a world champion. She holds the world record for this event as well, having run it in 12.12 seconds in Eugene, Oregon, in 2022.
Ackera Nugent from Jamaica is likely to give Russell and Amusan a tough time. At the Jamaican Championships in 2024, the 22-year-old set a national record with a time of 12.28s. From 2021 on, Nugent is the world U20 winner.
France is hosting the event, and Cyrena Samba-Mayela is also likely to compete. She won the 2024 European Championships in Rome, which was a big deal. Her 12.31s time was the best in the competition and the whole country.
