Rohan Bopanna calls time on Indian tennis career, says Paris 2024 Olympics was ‘last event for the country’ :- A famous Indian tennis player, Rohan Bopanna, has quit the national team after losing in the first round of the men’s doubles event at the Paris 2024 Olympics. He has been to three Olympics.

Bopanna, ranked No. 4, told PTI, “This will definitely go down as my last event for the country.” He had lost his first match in the men’s doubles earlier in the day.

Bopanna, 44, has said he will continue to play on the ATP tour even though he is no longer playing for his country.

The Indian tennis player said, “I fully understand where I am and will now just enjoy the tennis circuit as long as that goes.”

Before the Olympics in Paris, Bopanna’s most recent match was for India at the Asian Games in Hangzhou last year. He won the gold medal in the mixed doubles with Rutuja Bhosale.

Also, his 21-year Davis Cup career came to an end earlier in September, after he helped India beat Morocco 4-1 in a Davis Cup World Group II match.

“This is already a great thing for me.” “I never thought I’d be representing India for 20 years,” the two-time Asian Games gold medalist said as he thought back on his career. “Even though it’s been 22 years since my debut in 2002, I still get to play for India.” That makes me very proud.

Bopanna’s first Olympics were in London in 2012, where he played with Mahesh Bhupathi in the men’s doubles and made it to the second round.

They lost the bronze match in the mixed doubles at Rio 2016, which meant they missed out on a historic prize. Bopanna teamed up with Leander Paes, who is India’s only tennis Olympian, in the men’s doubles, but they lost in the first round. Bopanna was not able to go to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Bopanna won the Australian Open with his partner Matthew Ebden at the beginning of 2024. At 43 years and nine months, he was the oldest man to win a Grand Slam title in the Open Era of tennis.

When Bopanna won the Australian Open, it was his second Grand Slam title. In 2017, he won the French Open mixed pairs event. They also made it to the semi-finals of the French Open last month.
